Equipping God's People to Create Missional Culture

Great Events from Coast to Coast

During the next couple of weeks there are some great events happening from coast to coast. In my last entry I shared about the ArtCyle that is happening in East Hollywood this coming Saturday. Today I had a few other happenings that you ought to know about.

N.T. Wright in Southern California
One of my favorite authors and theologians will be speaking at different places this week in the Los Angeles area. This coming Thursday evening, N.T. Wright, Bishop of Durham, will be speaking at Lake Avenue in Pasadena, CA. The doors will open at 6 p.m. with the lecture beginning at 7 p.m. The event is free and seating will be on a first-come-first-serve basis. My friend Kurt Fredrickson who heads up Fuller’s Doctor of Ministry program was able to get N.T. Wright to do an intensive week for doctoral students. I’m planning on going to this one.

N.T. Wright will also be speaking at a half day conference this coming Saturday, February 28th at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach, CA. The cost is $10, but it will be well worth it.

Ecclesia Network Conference in Washington D.C.
As one of the catalyst and board members of the Ecclesia Network, I’m proud to announce our annual national gathering which is taking place in Washington D.C. the other coast. We have four great speakers, from the well-known missiologist Darrell Guder, to Eddie Gibbs, Mike Breen and Jon Tyson. The topic is Forming Missional Congregations. The dates are March 4th to March 6th. There still may be some more room so check out the details and see if you can make it. It’s going to be a rich time. Hope to see you there.

City of Angels Film Festival 2009
If you want to see some of the most inspiring, important and imaginative independent films of the year and you are in the LA area, then you should check out the City of Angels Film Festival happening this weekend, from February 27th to March 1st at the Directors Guild at 7920 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA. Individual film tickets which include discussion is $8 while the all festival pass with preferred seating is $60 and $50 for students. This is a must for all film lovers and film makers.

Todd Hiestand at Kairos Hollywood
This Sunday, March 1st at the Fountain Room blogger and pastor Todd Hiestand will be the guest speaking at the weekly gathering of Kairos Hollywood. All the way from the suburbs of Philly, Todd comes with a missional message that is sure to challenge and encourage you. The gathering starts at 5 p.m. I hope to see you there!

Beyond Evandalism with Peter Rollins at Hollywood Adventist Church

My friend Ryan Bell at Hollywood Adventist and the Re-church Network is hosting a gathering March 1st and 2nd. Peter Collins will be talking on the intriguing topic of Beyond Evandalism. Peter is an author and coordinator of the experimental collective ikon. The cost for this conference is $90 at starts this coming Sunday at 7 p.m.

Dude I totally forgot to post about it, but I knew about it cause my friend Todd Hiestand is sharing something at it. He is staying at my place. Unfortunately I have other commitments and obligations. Are you coming to the D.C. conference this year?

  4. JR Woodward says:

Yeah, a lot of stuff happening around town.

  5. Tony Stiff says:

Very impressed with Ecclesia Network – VERY!

  6. JR Woodward says:

It might be late for you, but if you can make it over, it would be great to introduce you to a lot of people and if you are still looking for a place of ministry you might make some good connections. Let me know and I can possibly invite you to an early bird gathering. David Fitch will be there as well.

  7. Tony Stiff says:

JR I’d love to but we’re living in Clearwater, Fl. I wish I had seen it earlier I would have definitely planned on being there. We are still looking so it would have been a prime opportunity to be challenged and to network.

I’m going to surf around on Ecclesia Network today. We’re also praying about planting a church and I’m looking for a great church to plant from and a great network to be apart of.

If you are thinking about planting a church, we have a week long conference that is designed for church planters in May in Richmond, VA. Check that out as you are browsing around. Peace.

  9. I just got back from the NT Wright event in Pasadena. Incredible. The vibe was like a rock concernt. And the good bishop didn’t disappoint. His presentation on Christian virtue was mind-boggling.

I got a pretty good audio recording of the event that I’m gonna try to put up on my site over the weekend (or maybe early next week since I’ll be at a retreat this weekend). For anyone who didn’t get a chance to attend, check back over the next few days.

    Grace and Peace,
    Parables of a Prodigal World

Let me know when you put it up, for I would love to link to the site. I agree with you, it was a rich talk with many great nuggets for life.

  11. JR,

Audio will be up tomorrow morning.

    Grace and Peace,
