LA Happenings

So if you are living in Southern California, here are a few interesting things happening over the weekend. If you are aware of some other stuff happening that you want others to know, please write up something in the comments section.

Thia New Year Festival on Hollywood Blvd
So every year since I live in Thai Town, I get to just walk out of my apartment building right into the Thai New Year Festival. It is a fun day. They block off a few blocks from Hollywood and Western East just past Kingsley. There is great food, music, booths, different kinds of sports and arts. It is a great event and one that the East Hollywood Neighborhood Council is involved. It is happening this coming Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. So if you are in town, let me know. Cause I plan to be there for part of the time.

Anatolian Cultures and Food Festival
The Orange County Fairgrounds are hosting “Discovering Turkiye” from April 2nd to April 5th where you transport back in time to discover Anatolian culture, “ethnic and religious, harmony and interaction, beginning 10,000 years ago. The festival is seeking to have a creative blend of ancient history and modern technology.  There are many special events during the day as well as in the evening.  You can also get a taste of Anatolian cuisine.

Getty Music: Sounds of LA
Enjoy the annual concert series that “explores our city’s varied musical geography, celebrating the work of masters as well as up-and-coming musicians from around the globe. This season’s concerts feature charismatic musicians who combine global influence in unexpected and oirginal ways.  And of course the Getty museum is great to experience in an of itself.

Cambodian New Years in Long Beach

“With the largest Cambodian population outside of Cambodia, Long Beach is the place to celebrate Cambodian New Year. Events are split into two weekends. First is the Cambodian New Year parade down Anaheim Street this Saturday April 5th, and April 25 is the larger Cambodian New Year Festival which will draw about 20,000 people to El Dorado Park.”

There are many costs of living in a big city, but when we take advantage of all of the interesting things happening, the benefits outweigh the costs.
