Discipleship Part XV

Follow Me as I follow Christ - Photo by Firefigher with a Camera

In this series of posts, I am sharing some short thoughts from each chapter of Dallas Willard’s book The Great Omission and then some brief personal reflections.

Chapter Fourteen: Why?
In this chapter of questions and answers of why engage the spiritual disciplines, Willard reminds us that “everything we develop from our lives that is of any value is the result of discipline, of voluntary chosen and planned activities (171), and that “there is no sense of fulfillment, dignity, and quality to life that we can have without discipline” (171,2).

My Reflections
This not only rings true in my experience, but gives me fresh motivation to engage in various disciplines that will allow me to grow to be more like Christ as well engage in disciplines that will enable me to live up to my sacred potential and help others do the same. So what disciplines have you engaged in that have helped you to live more Christ-like?

One Response to Discipleship Part XV

The discipline of thinking of others..no matter what is going on in my life, I have trained myself to put aside my life even in my mind so that when someone even slightly enters my bubble/space…I can genuinely initiate & consider how to love them..the conversation doesn’t sneek back to being all about me and my mind set is not how to fix them…I am just there enjoying them.. memorized verses at a young age on this, practice the art of people watching( @ the airport & bus terminals are the best) , read alot on people & attended classes on how to better love & seek out others…listening & stuff…this has helped me perfect my trade…though I have alot more to learn
The biggest discipline I learned at a young age was just going to the source…my favorite good read is my Bible..I have it all over where I live…no I don’t have verses plastered on my walls…:)…but I have a small Bible in my backpack…and various ones on tape, etc… I love to spice it up…I hate that alot of people know more of the Gospel according to Joyce Meyer than Luke…etc…I make it my goal to always read more of the Bible than any other source every day…doesn’t always happen but it’s a goal
These are just 2 discipline I can think of right off the bat
