Monday Morning Medicine
“A cheerful heart is good medicine” – Proverbs 17:22 NLT
What happens when a church fails to contextualize…
… OR what happens when a church loves edgy publicity stunts? I saw this pic yesterday, thinking it was a church that didn’t have a clue, and that was funny, so I was waiting to post in on my Monday Morning Medicine. But on Sunday afternoon I realized that (according to their website) this is “progressive Christian college group [seeking] to redefine how church is done”, which was kind of a bummer for me.
For WTF is Wake. The original post of this pic I saw was here. Wake has a facebook page as well. So which is it – a lack of contextualization, over-contextualization, a creative campaign, gimmicky (as Ryan Bell says) - or just plain poor taste (as Bob Hyatt says)? At the Wake blog, they seem to be happy that there photo (and church) has gone “viral” through twitter.

I saw that photo earlier as well – i liked it more before I found out it was intentionally done. then i could’ve mocked it.
now that i know it’s intentional, it seems a bit overdone. kudos still for getting viral.
Lon, yeah, I kind of liked it better when I thought it was a church that was totally out of touch, which is why I had it scheduled for my Monday morning medicine. Oh well.
Was it a PR stunt or are they just slow? It is the new Bulk mailer!
Try to do something outlandish so you can go viral. A worthy goal…
Yeah, pretty crazy.
I think the most telling response Wake gives in their responses is, “We’ve arrived.” I guess it was just about being popular. ;-P
