Equipping God's People to Create Missional Culture

LA 2010: Speaker Themes – Rick Mysse

LA 2010 starts this coming Friday, November 5th and ends on Saturday November 6th. For a full list of the speakers and details about this UNconference, check out this LA 2010 post. Please RSVP for this event on our facebook event page. We have a seating capacity, so those who register on facebook will have first priority. Here is the topic Rick Mysse will be addressing.

Title: Deadliest Catch-ers

Talk in a Sentence: How “the priesthood of some believers” corrupts the process of reproducing.

Talk in a Paragraph: The church remains one of a very few organizations that looks backwards nearly 2,000 years for a ‘working ideal’ or model of their mission and function. If the original disciples were to suddenly show up today, their greatest question would have to be — “how is it these people seem to believe with so little evidence?” Some of our church structures in many ways emulate the Jewish priesthood and elitism (“leaven of the Pharisees?”) rather than a more radical Christ-empowered bottom-up movement of disciples rapidly reproducing disciples. Is it possible to move away from discipleship as a ‘catch and control’ program to a more affirming process of ‘bless and release?’

Rick Mysse – has been married to childhood sweetheart Hollie for 37 years. They are survivors of multiple church movements including The Jesus People, Charismatic, Discipleship-Shepherding, Vineyard and Church Growth. Parents of five kids and proud grandparents to two perfect grandsons, they have lived in Orange County, California for the past 26 years where Rick has attempted to obey the call of God as a businessman, pastor, mentor and a mainline denominational leader. The past six years he has specifically tried to be a blessing and provide resources to a growing group of church planters in Southern California and Texas. He and Hollie recently started Hickory and Spice BBQ Catering in hopes of providing jobs and funding for bi-vocational church planters.
