Monday Morning Medicine
“A cheerful heart is good medicine” Proverbs 17:22a
John Powell said this: “Blessed is he who has learned to laugh at himself, for he shall never cease to be entertained.” I have found that to be true.
Many years ago, I was a public speaker in Richmond, VA for a group called Citizens Against Crime. I would give this 45 minute presentation to mostly women who sometimes worked in dangerous areas. The way I made money was by selling as much tear gas as I was able at the end of my presentation.
This particular day I was speaking with fifty librarians at Virginia Commonwealth University library. I was giving my presentation on how these librarians could protect themselves against crime. At one point in my presentation I had to show them this physical maneuver which required me to bend down rather quickly.
As I was bending down with great speed, the seam of my pants cracked open at even greater speed. The rip was loud and the room grew extremely silent. I felt a breeze where I shouldn’t have been feeling one.
I finally said something [which I can't remember] to break the tension in the room. But I still had the problem of my ripped pants. It was a long hour. The good news was that I did happen to sell 100% percent of my audience that day. Later I was talking with my co-worker, and told him what had happen he suggested that I try to rip my pants in all of my presentations. I didn’t feel led to follow his advice.
So, what is something funny that has happened to you. Have you learned to laugh at yourself?
