Attitude Check – Part IV
Check out Part I Part II and Part III ,to the series first. So why should we regularly check our attitude?
Our attitude determines our faithfulness and fruitfulness. Paul’s persevering attitude helped him to stay faithful to God and produce much fruit, to the point that it was said about his work they are “turning the world upside down”. He had an attitude that would never give up. It didn’t matter what hardships he would face. He was thrown in jail a number of times, but never gave up. He was beaten and whipped, but he never gave up. One city greeting him by throwing stones at him and left him for dead, but he never gave up. How was he able to have an attitude where he would never give up, despite his hardships?
Most people fail to become fruitful because they give up to early. What God-dream have you had, but have given up on? Victory may be just around the corner. The most fascinating sports games are those where the game is won in the final seconds. Fruitful people just don’t know how to quit, they just keep on going. There are many times when they have wanted to give up, but they just kept on going, and God in time answers them.
Have you heard about the Chinese Bamboo tree? You plant a bamboo sprout in the ground, and for four or five years (sometimes much longer) nothing happens! You water and fertilize, water and fertilize, water and fertilize – but you see not visible evidence that anything is happening. I mean nothing! But about the fifth year things change rather dramatically. In a six-week period the Chinese bamboo tree grows to a staggering thirty meters tall! World Book Encyclopedia records that one bamboo plant can grow one meter in a single twenty-four hour period. It seems incredible that a plant that lies dormant for years can suddenly explode with growth, but it happens without fail with bamboo trees.
Paul said, “Do not become weary in doing good, because in due time you will reap a harvest if you don’t give up.” Don’t give up, victory is just around the corner.
Can you see how important our attitude in life is? It determines our faithfulness and fruitfulness in life, it affects our relationships with other people, in fact, it affects our whole outlook on life. So what can we do to have a renewed attitude, a positive and persevering attitude? How can we overcome depression, a critical, negative and complaining attitude? We will start to tackle that question in the next part of the series.
