How I’m Approaching My Sabbatical – Part 2
Today I will be flying out of LA to the island of Kauai, where I will stay my first week. Then I will fly to Honolulu for a short stay, and spend the remainder of my time in Hawaii on the Big Island, Kona. As I mentioned in my last post, the first month is about rest.
MONTH TWO (October 2011)
What: Reflect and Read the Text of my life.
Where: Los Angeles & East Coast
Description: I plan to read old journal, read assessments that I’ve done through the years, whether it be on spiritual gifts, personality and so for. I will also conduct a grand examen looking at the last 20 years of ministry to see how my life has developed, re-discover primary passions, understand current convictions that God has developed through the years. I will connect with a number of people in this time to reflect with them, and hopefullly take an 8 day retreat going through Ignatian spirituality. Here are a list of books I hope to read during October.
Inner Compass: An Invitation to Ignatian Spirituality by Maragret Silf
The Gift of Being Yourself: The Sacred Call to Self-Discovery by David Benner
Let Your Life Speak: Listening for the Voice of Vocation by Parker Palmer
Spaces for the Sacred: Place, Memory and Identity by Philip Shldrake
Under the Unpredictable Plant: An Exploration in Vocational Holiness by Eugene Peterson
