Equipping God's People to Create Missional Culture

How I’m Approaching My Sabbatical – Part 3

I’m enjoying my first week in Hawaii, on the island of Kauai. Thursday, I will fly to Honolulu for a short stay, and spend the remainder of my time in Hawaii on the Big Island in Kona. As I mentioned in a previous post, the first month is about rest. The second month is about reflection.

MONTH THREE (November 2011)

What: Refocus, Surrendering, Resolving
Where: East Coast, Los Angeles & San Francisco

Description: During this time I seek to discern what is next in my life, based on my reflection from last month. I plan to meet up with some of my closest friends through the years to discern God’s future for my life with them, and possible engage in a “clearness committee”, a practice of the Quakers. The books I hope to read this month are the following:

The Discerning Heart: Exploring the Christian Path by Wilkie Au and Norren Au
Triumph of the City by Edward Glaeser
The Me I Want to Be by John Ortberg
Experiences in Theology by Jurgen Moltmann
The Story of God, The Story of Us by Sean Gladding
The Pastor: A Memoir by Eugene Peterson
Hannah’s Child: A Theologians Memoir by Stanley Hauerwas
