Church Planter Assessment
When it comes to assessing the readiness of a church planter candidate, we base our assessment on a modification of the Ridley/Logan assessment. A number of the categories remain the same, but a few changes are necessary in light of our current context in the West. We assess on a Missional Church Perspective rather than a church growth perspective. Here are the categories we examine.
- Visionizing Capacity
- Intrinsic Motivation
- Discipleship & Ministry Ownership
- Incarnational Living
- Spousal Cooperation
- Builds Loving Relationships
- Missional Lifestyle
- Responsiveness to the Community
- Flexibility & Adaptability
- Building Cohesive Groups
- Resilience
- Exercises Faith
The Process
First we have each person fill out a questionnaire for church planters. Then we conduct a 6 to 8 hour intense interview designed to discover past behavior demonstrated in the church, family and workplace over a period of time that correlates to the needed qualities to be a fruitful church planter in our current context. Spouses are encouraged to be a part of the interview.
The Interview
Part I – Four Categories 1 hr 45 min
Part II – Three Categories 1 hr 45 min
Part III – Three Categories 1 hr 30 min

- Overview of church planting potential
- Our conclusions
- A paragraph description of each behavioral category
- A graphic summary of each category
